See Rudkøbing with new eyes — city walk with passionate intermediaries
Discover the tales behind the facades
Want to experience Rudkøbing like you've never seen it before? Take an evocative city walk and get up close to history, art and culture — guided by two local mediators with deep insight and love for the city.
A market town with layer upon layer of stories
The city walk takes you through Rudkøbing's old street network, where medieval and modern life meet. You will get a unique insight into the development of the city through historic merchant farms, hidden backyards and the connection between market town and manor houses.
Great personalities and small anecdotes
Along the way you will meet both the known and the forgotten: Hans Christian Ørsted, Anders Sandøe Ørsted and Mads Lange — but also the town's local originals, tragic fates and enthusiasts. Each story is told with twinkle in the eye and gaze for the human.
Art in the City and Art in Nature
Rudkøbing has a vibrant artistic pulse — from Alfio Bonanno's internationally acclaimed natural works to Bjørn Okholm's “Hippo Ballerina”, the iconic hippopotamus sculpture on the square. You'll spot the art in both urban spaces and backyards.
Future, Community and Change
The tour also provides insight into today's Langeland — from project Shores and new architecture in Ørstedparken to the story of a society in motion. The town is part of the UNESCO Global Geopark The South Funen Archipelago, and it is felt in the stories.
